The Retina in our eye, is a nerve tissue that lies at the back of the eye and is responsible for the sense of the light, and creates an impulse or series of impulse that travels through the optic nerve to our brain. Retina is the most important part of the eye and is responsible for the vision to happen. Due to its importance in the eye, any damage to the retina can result in permanent damage to the eye and complete vision loss.
Diabetic Retinopathy mainly occurs to those people who have diabetes over a prolonged period of time. In Diabetic Retinopathy, the retina muscles become weak resulting in blurry vision, double vision, floaters or pressure in eyes. Diabetic Retinopathy is a treatable disease and can be treated using laser surgery and by controlling the Diabetes.
Retinal Detachment is a major problem and should be not considered lightly. When too much fluid accumulates at the back of the eye this can result in causing separation of the retina. There are also other risk factors which can increase the chances of Retinal Detachment over a period of time:
If you are experiencing an increased presence of floaters over a period of time, or the sudden development of a curtain like structure in your field of vision, this can be an indication of retinal detachment. It is highly recommended that you visit an eye doctor immediately.
(AMD) is the most common cause of irreversible central vision loss in older patients. Dilated funduscopic findings are diagnostic; color photographs, fluorescein angiography, and optical coherence tomography assist in confirming the diagnosis and in directing treatment. Treatment is with dietary supplements, intravitreal injection of antivascular endothelial growth factor drugs, laser photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy, and low-vision devices.
A macular hole is a rare eye condition that can blur the central vision you use to do everyday tasks like driving or reading.
The macula is a small area in the center of the retina (the light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of the eye). Macular holes happen when an opening forms in the macula — usually after being stretched or pulled. Most macular holes form because of changes in the eye that happen as you age.
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is an eye disease that can happen in babies who are premature (born early) — or who weigh less than 3 pounds at birth.
ROP happens when abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina (the light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of your eye). Some babies with ROP have mild cases and get better without treatment. But some babies need treatment to protect their vision and prevent blindness.
